Your Initial Visit

When you arrive at your first appointment, our reception staff will ask you to complete a medical history form so that your health professional will have an understanding of your personal health requirements. You might like to print a copy to complete at your leisure and bring it to your next appointment. We encourage you to ask if you are uncertain of any of the questions.

Your initial oral examination may include a visual examination, charting, periodontal probing, diagnosis and treatment recommendations. We may also take x-rays or photos for proper diagnosis of the anterior (front) and posterior (back) teeth for proper diagnosis of dental decay or disease. We will spend time discussing your options and oral health plans, specifically tailored to your needs.

Preventative Oral Hygiene/Therapy

Regular appointments with the dentists for checkups and cleans help prevent new cavities, preserve teeth that have been restored, maintain a clean healthy tongue, keep breath fresh & manage gum disease. However, our most important role is to educate our patients so they can maintain a healthy mouth at home. The oral cancer check is included as an important part of an examination.

At Ballina Coast Dental we believe that ‘prevention is better than cure’ and so we have a highly skilled team of Oral Hygienists and an Oral Health Therapist to look after your gums and get your teeth sparking clean. The Hygienists and Therapist will be happy to answer an oral health questions and work with you to identify a preventative oral maintenance program suitable your needs and schedule. As an independent family dental practice, we are able to take the required time it needs to really get results in preventative maintenance. We also stock recommended products for purchase, in order to make your life easier.

Cosmetic Dentistry & Teeth Whitening

There are many cosmetic dental treatment options that can assist patients with feeling happy with their smile. Cosmetic dentistry is a type of restoration based around improving appearance of teeth, such as whitening, or the use of veneers.

Prior to whitening treatments, patients should have an exam to make sure there is no existing decay. We work with our patients to create their optimum smile.

Dental Emergencies

Our goal is to help you minimise the risk of emergency treatment. This is why we commit a generous amount of time designing plans and strategies that will help you to offset the possibility of unforeseen pain or tooth breakage.

We have daily emergency appointments available, but please phone as early in the day as possible, as these appointments do fill. We will endeavour to see you as soon as possible.

Restorative Dentistry

We want patients to feel comfortable with their smile and so we restore cracked, decayed, chipped and worn teeth to improve both function and appearance. This includes crowns, bridges, veneers, root canal therapy, and fillings.

Children’s Dentistry

At Ballina Coast Dental we believe that starting regular visits early in your child’s life will create good oral health habits and increase your child’s comfort levels with visiting the dentist.

To make life easier for parents, we bulk bill the Medicare Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) for eligible patients. Please speak to our friendly reception team for more information.

We want to make your child’s visit to the dentist as enjoyable an experience as possible. Our oral health professionals are trained to work with kids and we have some fun and educational tools, such as our large stuffed puppet, giant toothbrush, stickers and colouring pages. Before their appointment, children can relax in our kids play corner, where they will find interesting books, puzzles, and mega bloks. During their appointment, children often enjoy riding in the dental chair and can listen to kids music or watch tv.

We are happy to send a team to visit your school or playgroup and really enjoy doing these visits. Please contact reception to book in a visit. We are also able to provide tailor made kids sports mouthguards.

Anxious Patients

We understand that some patients may feel anxious about their dental appointments and we do our best to try and create an environment in which every patient can feel comfortable and relaxed, in both the practice and the dental chair.

Our dental professionals continuously attend training and stay on top of the latest scientifically proven research in oral health in order to provide you with highest quality, lasting dental care.

For nervous patients, both adults and children, we can provide Nitrous Sedation (laughing gas). The rooms have music, televisions, air conditioning, heating, and the option of a cosy blanket.

We find that regular visits and getting to know your oral health professionals helps to raise the comfort levels and we are happy to work with you to find that comfort zone.
